Over the past twelve months, a very dedicated group of volunteers, agency representatives, and elected officials have been diligently working to find a solution to the lack of public transit in Allendale County.  The health care and employment statistics for Allendale County are some of the worst in South Carolina.  Without some form of public transit to health services within the county and jobs jwithin and ust outside the county, the future of Allendale County could remain bleak.  News articles have appeared in statewide newspapers outlining the tremendous problems experienced by the residents of Allendale County.

This group, with the help of Allendale County Alive, Lowcounty RTA, and the Lower Savannah Council of Governments, decided it was time to find a solution to the problem.  They identified the barriers to transportation and developed a unique approach to the problem.  Officially on July 28, 2004, a coordinated public transit system will begin in Allendale County!!!!  This system will utilize existing seats on agency vehicles, which will be made available to members of the general public through reasonably priced tickets, $1.50 per 10 miles traveled.  Instead of agency vehicles traveling throughout the county and to destinations such as Columbia or Charleston and carrying only one or two clients, the vehicles can now be filled with both clients and members of the general public.  Funding for the system has come from various sources such as the James E. Clyburn Transportation Center, the S. C. Department of Mass Transit, Allendale County Alive, Allendale County, and Sisters of Charity.  Additionally, a Faith Based Program utilizing Federal Transit Administration entitlements will join the project to further expand its capabilities.

On July 28, 2004, at 10:00 AM in Allendale, the system was officially dedicated.
